To deal with odours and create a pleasing ambience, it is no longer necessary to saturate a space with heavy concentrations of scent and environmentally unfriendly VOC’s (volatile organic compounds). Prolitec’s micro-scale particle generation technology represents a genuine breakthrough in the use of liquids for air treatment applications including Odour Remediation, Ambient Scenting, Product Advertising, Restroom Hygiene, and Aromatherapy and Performance.
The essence of the Prolitec breakthrough is the use of tiny particles and the ability to produce them with consistent sizes and controllable quantities from both aqueous and non-aqueous liquids. In air treatment applications, these particles serve as transport vehicles for pure fragrances and odour neutralisers to blend with the ambient air in interior spaces.
Conventional aerosols produce droplets that vary in size between 30 and 100 microns in diameter. Prolitec particles consistently measure less than 1 micron (1). Relative to a conventional aerosol droplet of, say, 50 microns in diameter, the Prolitec particle is 1/50 the size, 1/125,000 the weight (2), and presents to the air more than 50 times more exposed surface area per unit of volume (3). Thus, the Prolitec particle is highly effective at ultra-low concentrations of less than one part per million.
Importantly, the Prolitec particle is produced with very low pressure and no heat insuring that the original chemical compound is not altered in any way. The Prolitec particle is delivered into the air without the use of potentially harmful VOC's as propellants.
Unlike heavier aerosol particles which fall to the floor or other surfaces within minutes, Prolitec’s much smaller and very much lighter particles behave like a “dry” gas remaining airborne for many hours (4), blending uniformly throughout an interior space and without leaving surface deposits.
A 50 times more exposed surface area-to-volume ratio gives the smaller Prolitec particle a huge performance advantage over the conventional aerosol. More surface area means more contact between the air treatment agent and the air being treated. It means that ultra-low concentrations of chemical compounds amounting to less than one part per million (ppm) – well below allergenic and toxicity thresholds - achieve excellent odour remediation and scenting results.
Control of particle size and number is critical to maintaining the head-space concentration levels so important in air treatment applications. Prolitec’s particle generator engine can produce output from immeasurably low quantities to 10 liters per hour. This engine also controls particle size, rejecting all that are too large. The onboard computer system is programmable to control flow rate and output.
Retail Chain Store - Ambient Scenting and Aromatherapy and Performance
Seeking a way to improve the experience of its customers in checkout lines, a major European discount grocery and general merchandise chain, comparable to Wal* Mart in the U.S., turned to Prolitec for a solution.
Prolitec developed an Ambient Scenting program using a fragrance called “Nature After Rain,” which was diffused over the checkout area in a test store. Prolitec’s utilization and understanding of Aromatherapy and Performance was central in the choice of this particular aroma, which is known to be helpful in shortening people’s perception of time passed in a space.
Positive response to the test program moved the retailer to expand the service to additional outlets and also to add a “wine cellar” fragrance to enhance the consumer experience in its wine departments.
